The 2023 presidential elections in Nigeria are approaching, and Alhaji Majeed Dahiru, a political analyst and journalist, has come forward to address the issue of the Biafran civil war being used as a reason to deny the Igbo people a chance at the presidency.

While speaking on Ait.live talk show, Dahiru argued that the near-genocidal killings during the Biafran war and the northern counter-coup, which resulted in more casualties for the southeast than the 1966 coup carried out by Igbo soldiers, should not be used as an excuse to block an Igbo president.
He also pointed out that Scotland’s desire for secession from Great Britain did not prevent a Prime Minister of Scottish descent from leading the UK. Dahiru believes that the present generation should not be judged based on the events of 1966 and that allowing the Igbo to hold the highest office in the country is a necessary step towards unity.
