The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, while reacting to the Naira redesign and the lingering crisis of its scarcity across the country, claimed that the Naira was not redesigned but was filtered using a beauty-themed app called Snapchat.
Sowore made this statement during an interview with Channels Television yesterday. According to him, “They claimed they redesigned the naira, but that was a lie; the naira was never redesigned. If you keep the new 1,000 Naira in your pocket over time, the color will return to the former because it was filtered; they used Snapchat for it.”
Speaking further, he said, the current scarcity of the newly redesigned Naira notes is only affecting the poor ones because an average bank will first serve the politicians and the rich citizens before attending to the masses. According to him, “If you are rich citizens in this country, you can get a bank manager to bring you the new currency in a billion van on a Saturday or Sunday. Have you ever seen a governor queueing up to withdraw the new Naira notes? It’s never possible; the problem is affecting only the poor people.”
