The Present Nigeria President who is a retired Nigerian Army major general, Muhammadu Buhari has described poverty and underdevelopment as a tragedy. He stated this in a documentary titled ‘Essential Muhammadu Buhari’, which aired on Channels Television on Sunday.
Looking at what life resembled in Katsina then, when he was in secondary school where individuals begged for food each Friday at the mosque, Buhari said when he visited Liverpool In United Kingdom on siestas, what he saw was contrast.
He said, “When I visited Liverpool, we went to central Liverpool and when we went down the road, I saw people coming out, everyone well dressed up. They looked attractive, solid and I then, at that point, thought about the roads back here in Katsina, from my school days when I was going to the mosque on Fridays, you would see blind men, handicapped people, and orphans arranged, asking for what to eat; I say, God, how can we comprehend.
President Buhari further uncovered that he was flogged a lot because he avoided going to the school farm.
“I got a lot of bulala (stick) since I attempted to try not to go to school farm and if you miss it, you are not permitted to go for break. Thus, you have no break until you make it happen yet what I do the past recent and the final one, I will go over the wall of the school, rush home and in some cases I will eat up to the time I’m going to the classroom. I won’t fail to remember those things,” he said.
