The 2023 most streamed musician in Ghana, according to Boomplay is none other than Black Sherif, the current VGMA Artiste of the Year.
Boomplay released its annual report on music consumption on the digital streaming platform, which includes streaming data from local music scenes over the weekend.
The most popular acts on the charts were Black Sherif, followed by Sarkodie in second place and Stonebwoy in third.
Under the tag #BoomplayRecap2023 to represent the year under review, the report is divided into three sections to highlight nation, artist, and user insights for 2023.
With over 10 million artists and more than 7,500 content suppliers, the streaming platform reported growing its repertoire to 120 million songs in the year under review.
The top musical genres on Boomplay for the year were gospel, Amapiano, Afrobeats, Afrofusion, Amapiano, Gengentone and hip-hop and rap.
Black Sherif remarkable year in perspective
Black Sherif, also known as Blacko, is truly deserving of all the attention he’s been getting at just 21 years old. In 2023, for the second year in a row, he will shine brightly with his incredible achievements.
He started the year with a bang by releasing a double single called ‘YAYA’ and ‘SIMMER DOWN’, both of which were amazing. And now, he’s dropped another masterpiece called ‘OH NO’ that’s making waves on various streaming platforms.
Since the release of his debut album, “The Villain I Never Was,” last year, he has proven himself to be one of Africa’s most influential creative voices.
His music has been streamed globally in massive numbers, making him the most-streamed Ghanaian artist of 2022 on Spotify and the most-streamed Ghanaian artist of all time on Boomplay, a popular African streaming platform.
It’s truly remarkable how he has achieved all of this in such a short amount of time, contributing to the new sound emerging from Africa. He’s also getting ready for his annual concert, ‘Zaama Disco,’ which will be held on December 21.
