10 forgotten Nottingham Forest players from the Premier League era –

Nottingham Forest were a Premier League regular in the 1990s but then spent 23 years outside the top flight.

Steve Cooper’s side finally secured promotion from the Championship in May 2022 and narrowly avoided relegation last term.

Due to their prolonged stint outside the Premier League, a number of players to have represented Forest in recent times are easily forgotten.

We take a look at 10 who may have slipped the mind.

Alf-Inge Haaland (1993-97)

Perhaps more fondly remembered for his spells at Leeds and Manchester City, Alf-Inge Haaland’s career in England began at Forest.

He played 82 games across all competitions after joining from Bryne FK, scoring seven goals in that time.

Andrea Silenzi (1995-97)

Despite the fact he was the first Italian to play in the Premier League, Andrea Silenzi’s stint at Forest is not fondly remembered.

The striker — who played alongside Diego Maradona at Napoli for a year — failed to score in 12 top-flight appearances and was subsequently shipped on loan to Venezia for the 1996-97 season prior to his permanent departure.

John Terry (2000)

Before cementing his status as a Premier League legend and Chelsea’s greatest captain, John Terry spent a short time on loan at Forest.

The 42-year-old featured in only six matches but became a regular for the Blues soon after his return to Stamford Bridge.

Gino Padula (2005-07)

Argentine left-back Gino Padula joined Forest after three successful years at QPR.

But he could not replicate the form he had shown at Loftus Road in Nottingham and was released at the end of the 2006-07 campaign after playing in just five matches.

Aaron Ramsey (2010-11)

Cardiff ace Aaron Ramsey signed for Forest on a short-term loan deal in order to gain match fitness after breaking his leg against Stoke in February 2010.

The Wales captain returned to Arsenal after making just five appearances for the East Midlands outfit.

Patrick Bamford (2011-12)

Due to the fact he has represented nine different clubs in England, it is easy to forget Patrick Bamford’s career started at Forest.

The Leeds striker, 30, came through the youth system at the City Ground but made just two senior appearances before joining Chelsea.

Federico Macheda (2016)

Scorer of a famous winner for Manchester United against Aston Villa in April 2009, Federico Macheda had a brief — and forgettable — loan stint at Forest.

The Italian forward joined from parent club Cardiff and played only three games.

Glenn Murray (2021)

The final days of Glenn Murray’s playing career were spent in a Forest jersey.

He signed a permanent deal in February 2021, scoring two goals in 16 matches prior to his retirement in May of that year.

Anel Ahmedhodzic (2016-19)

Sheffield United defender Anel Ahmedhodzic spent three years at Forest but made only one senior appearance.

He returned to Malmo before completing his move to Bramall Lane in July 2022.

Ashkan Dejagah (2018)

Ashkan Dejagah surprisingly returned to England in January 2018 by joining Forest on a short-term deal.

The ex-Fulham winger played just one game, though, which saw him released at the end of the 2017-18 season.
