D-Black Urges Government Investment in Creative Sector: Time for Action

In a passionate call to action, D-Black, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Black Avenue, has added his voice to the chorus of creatives in Ghana advocating for government investment in the creative sector. D-Black’s plea comes as promises made by the government to support the industry have yet to materialize, leaving the creative sector yearning for vital support.

Speaking candidly during a recent interview on Joy Prime’s ‘Celeb Biz,’ D-Black emphasized the urgent need for the government, particularly the Ministry of Tourism, Art, and Culture, to prioritize the creative sector. He highlighted that while assurances have been given over the years, tangible progress remains elusive.

D-Black’s concern is mirrored by many within the creative industry who have long awaited the promised reforms and investments to help bolster their endeavors. As the spotlight shines brightly on Ghana’s creative talents, he believes that the time for action is now.

One of the key issues D-Black raised is the lack of essential structures and effective leadership within crucial organizations like the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and the Ghana Rights Organization (GHAMRO). He expressed his frustration with the current state of these institutions, which play pivotal roles in the protection and promotion of Ghanaian creatives.

D-Black’s sentiments regarding MUSIGA’s troubles and the absence of effective leadership resonate with many in the industry. The ongoing legal battles and internal conflicts within MUSIGA have left creatives feeling unsupported and without a clear path forward.

Additionally, his critique extended to GHAMRO, which he labeled as a “terrible organization” characterized by a lack of accountability. D-Black openly questioned the benefits he and others have derived from GHAMRO over his 13 years in the music industry, pointing to a pressing need for transparency and effectiveness in these organizations.

D-Black’s outspoken advocacy sheds light on the pressing issues facing Ghana’s creative sector. His call to action serves as a reminder that, with the right support and infrastructure in place, Ghana’s creative talents have the potential to shine even brighter on the global stage. As the industry’s stakeholders continue to champion its cause, the hope is that government action will align with their aspirations, fostering an environment where creativity can truly thrive.
