Former Kaizer Chiefs prospect Sizwe Twala has officially bid farewell to Botswana’s prominent football club, Gaborone United. The talented 26-year-old forward, who once claimed the Multichoice Diski Challenge top scorer award in the 2018/19 season, has his sights set on a return to the South African top-flight football scene. Twala’s journey has taken him from the development structures of Kaizer Chiefs to several clubs in Botswana before seeking a fresh opportunity in his homeland.
Sizwe Twala’s football odyssey began at Kaizer Chiefs, where he emerged from the club’s development ranks. Despite his early promise, Twala did not secure a spot in the first team at Naturena. In February 2022, he ventured to the Botswana Premier League, joining Gaborone United. His arrival in Botswana marked a new chapter in his career, having previously played for Pretoria Callies and Moroka Swallows
Twala quickly made his presence felt in the Botswana football scene, despite battling a hamstring injury during his tenure with Gaborone United. Over the course of his stay, which spanned just six months, Twala made ten appearances and found the back of the net on one occasion. His contributions played a pivotal role in Gaborone United’s triumph in the league.
The 2022/23 season saw Twala’s star continue to rise as he earned his first-ever appearance in the prestigious CAF Champions League. Subsequently, he showcased his skills in league matches, scoring three goals and leaving an indelible mark on the field. His scoring prowess was further recognized when he clinched the top goalscorer award in the Botswana FA Cup, where he netted three goals in five appearances. In the final, Gaborone United secured a dramatic 1-0 victory over Orapa United, with former Chippa United midfielder Thatayaone Kgamanyane netting the late winner.
News has emerged that Twala and Gaborone United reached a mutual agreement to part ways, opening the door for the South African-born forward to pursue his ambitions in South African top-flight football once more. Twala’s journey has been marked by determination and a passion for the game, and his return to South Africa’s football scene is eagerly anticipated.Source:
