A video footage of which captured the West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana and his driver allegedly assaulting a resident of Ext 10 Westonaria has gone viral online. The video which was taken yesterday shows Kekana and his driver punching and kicking the civilian for allegedly resisting arrest.
According to reports, the incident started when the driver of a white bakkie was barred from entering a gated community in Westonaria. The driver then allegedly phoned Kekana who later responded and detained one of the residents. The resident who has not been identified can be seen in the video being punched and kicked by Kekana and his driver.
The video has sparked outrage on social media with many people calling for Kekana to be suspended or fired. In response to the allegations, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has promised to launch an investigation into the incident.
