LP crisis: Abure, Apapa Clash Over Imo A’Court Ruling

The Julius Abure and Lamidi Apapa-led factions of the Labour Party have disagreed over a ruling of an Appeal Court, in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Thursday.

While Apapa and his supporters claim that the court dismissed Abure as National Chairman and affirmed their candidate as the authentic chairman, the Abure-led Labour Party dismissed such claims as fake news.

According to reports emanating from the Apapa-led camp, the Appeal Court also dismissed the governorship and other candidates sponsored by the Abure-led National Working Committee while affirming Apapa’s leadership of the party.

In response, the LP National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh said in a statement in Abuja, that facts about what transpired in court state otherwise.

Military Must Avenge Deaths Of Troops—CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa has ordered all military commanders and troops in the country to avenge the death of their colleagues.

He spoke during the burial of personnel killed by bandits in Niger State on Friday.

The Defence Chief vowed that those responsible for the deaths of the personnel would pay for it.

Musa said, “When you have to bury your own, you feel very pained. I want to assure the families that their deaths are not in vain.

“We appreciate them. We will ensure those who did this must pay for this. I use this opportunity to call on all commanders and troops all over Nigeria that we must avenge this. Those who did this and those who continue to kill our men wherever they are we will smoke them out.

He vowed that the military would hunt down bandits, and terrorists among other criminal elements in the country.

Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu has told the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, cannot use his (Tinubu) Chicago State University (CSU) academic records against him at the Nigerian presidential election petition tribunal.

Tinubu described Atiku’s attempt to access his (Tinubu) University records as a wild goose chase, because it was already too late as the Nigerian court was no longer admitting evidence.

Following the discrepancies in Tinubu’s credentials, Atiku, who is challenging the election of Tinubu approached the US District Court to subpoena CSU into releasing the president’s academic records to aid his argument at the elections tribunal in Nigeria before September 21 when judgment is anticipated.

Niger: Macron Demands Junta’s Exit, ECOWAS Orders Fresh Talks

French President Emmanuel Macron, on Thursday, demanded the release of Nigerien President Mohamed Bazoum who was detained on July 26, 2023, in a military coup led by the former commander of Niger’s presidential guard, Abdourahamane Tchiani.

Macron, also called for a return to democratic order in Niger, a former French colony whose elected leadership was toppled in a military coup in July.

Leaders in the Economic Community of West African States bloc, said that they would keep all options on the table for a peaceful resolution to the crisis and ordered the activation of an ECOWAS standby force to restore constitutional order in Niger.
