Death rolling; SAPS run for their lives as illegal miners rained bullets and chased them to death

More than two hundred people have been detained in Langlaagte for illegal mining. State-owned specialist Units leading the campaign have stepped up their efforts in the district to halt illegal mining.

The arrest of 187 undocumented people is a direct result of these efforts, demonstrating the depth of this criminal organisation. On Monday, August 14, 2023, members of the National Intercession Component Institute were conducting routine patrols in Riverlea when they encountered a group of criminal miners.

Recently, a group of illegal miners opened fire on the police. While on patrol in the region, the officers came saw six people carrying groceries and letters into the George Harrison recreational area, which is known for being a hotbed for illegal mining.

Officers acted fast and followed the suspects as they entered a disused cast mine.

The tensions between the against the law miners and the regulation enforcement personnel boiled over, and bullets were fired. Surprisingly, no one on either side was hurt during the ferocious fighting, and one miner was successfully taken into prison. However, his cohorts evaded capture by disappearing into the maze of tunnels.
