A Lagos State-based human rights lawyer, Effiong Inibehe, has berated President Bola Tinubu over his nomination of some former governors and other politicians with corruption allegations and cases for ministerial positions.

Tinubu’s ministerial nominees include the former governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle and some other former governors and politicians who are being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other anti-graft agencies, for corruption, money laundering and abuse of their offices.

This has sparked widespread criticism, especially from the opposition political parties.

Reacting to the nomination lists, Inibehe said that he sees the list as Tinubu organising a carnival for “thieves”, stressing that the nominees, especially the former governors are individuals who have corruption baggage with many of them facing ongoing corruption cases.

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Monday, lamented that the five days of protest by civil servants in the state last week badly affected the internally generated revenue.

The PUNCH had reported that the workers locked the state secretariat at Agodi in Ibadan, the state capital, throughout last week, to demand palliatives, an upward review of pension allowances, and payment of salary deduction, among others.

Makinde, who addressed the aggrieved workers at the Governor’s Office, Ibadan, promised to hold a quarterly meeting with the labour leaders to close the gap of communication as a move to forestall industrial action in the state.

He said, “The week-long protest at the government secretariat has undoubtedly affected the state revenue negatively.

This administration will continue to prioritise the good nature of the state workforce and residents in general. We are ready to pay all outstanding deductions arrears and other demanded requests for a worthwhile condition of service.

Former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo has begged the Senate over perceived grievance with him.

The Senate had exploded into a rowdy session earlier today when Keyamo came for screening. A Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial District, Darlington Nwokocha, moved a motion for the suspension of Keyamo’s ministerial screening.

Nwokocha’s motion was seconded by his colleague from Abia-South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio thereafter subjected the motion to a voice vote but the lawmakers were divided on the matter.

The red chamber immediately erupted into a rowdy session.

Amid heated argument between the lawmakers, Akpabio rose to his feet, announcing that the Senate will enter a closed session.

Nwokocha had accused Keyamo of disrespecting the 9th National Assembly and accusing the last Assembly of being corrupt.
