25% In FCT: Why The Constitution Turn FCT To A State – Barrister Tunji Abayomi

Legal practitioner and Public Affairs Analyst, Barrister Tunji Abayomi has maintained that the constitution of Nigeria is clear about the status of the Federal capital territory.

It would be recalled that Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party are asking the court to invalidate the victory of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he failed to secure 25 percent of the votes in the FCT.

Speaking during an exclusive interview with TVC News on Monday, Ayobami said the constitution has turned the federal capital territory into a state.

According to him, the FCT Is just like other state and there is no Electoral value that is attached to the FCT.

Hear him “A lot of people confuse the issue when you talk about the federal capital territory. Federal capital territory is a mare nomenclature like other states. The focus is not on FCT, the focus is on the voters. People forget that federal government has no voters, only states and local government has voters that is why the constitution turns federal capital territory to a state so that it can account for the votes. No voter can have more value than another voter in Nigeria.”
