Source Reveals Why Lalong Was Disqualified As APC Chairman During Meeting With Tinubu

A recent report from Thisday Newspaper states that Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Kano State, is likely to be appointed as the interim national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) pending the party’s convention later this year.

Yesterday, the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), which comprises the governors of the APC, expressed their support for the resignation of the party’s former National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, and the National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore. The governors acknowledged their valuable contributions during their tenure.

According to sources speaking to Arise News, the selection process initially considered two candidates for the position of the National Chairman. Aside from Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, was also under consideration.

However, Simon Lalong was eventually disqualified from the race due to his perceived proximity to Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, the former Minister of Transportation, who is now technically not a part of the equation. The decision to remove Lalong from the list was reportedly based on concerns regarding his relationship with Amaechi. As a result, Ganduje’s candidacy emerged as the front-runner for the interim national chairman position.

As the APC gears up for its party convention later this year, the potential appointment of Abdullahi Ganduje as interim national chairman awaits final confirmation. This development follows the resignation of the previous party chairman and secretary, whose contributions have been commended by the PGF.

Sources have revealed that Ganduje’s nomination was in competition with Simon Lalong, the former governor of Plateau State. However, Lalong’s association with Rotimi Amaechi, who is currently not in contention for the position, ultimately led to his disqualification.

“Lalong was allegedly ticked off the list on account of his closeness to former Minister of Transportation, Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, who is technically out of the equation.”

The final decision regarding the interim national chairman position is expected to be officially announced soon, as the APC prepares to move forward with its leadership and organizational reforms.
