Hollywood filmmaker, Angela White, Bemoans Lack of Support From Ghana’s Govt. For Foreign Film Projects |

Hollywood filmmaker, Angela White has disclosed her disappointment with the government of Ghana following the lack of support for her film projects in the country.

Stating her concerns during a panel discussion at this year’s Essence Festival in New Orleans, Louisiana which started on Thursday, June 29, the renowned filmmaker said she is likely to take her next projects to South Africa after ‘Nine’ last year.

Already, Angela White is making plans to release her latest movie titled ‘Nine’ which was shot in Accra, starring a Pan-African cast including Ghana’s very own Chris Attoh, Kate Henshaw from Nigeria, Rosemary Zimu from South Africa among a host of other stars.

The CEO of Silver Lining Entertainment in May revealed on a TV show in Ghana that “Nine” is an international thriller about good vs evil featuring nine warrior assassins.

She mentioned that Ghanaian actor, Chris Attoh was very instrumental in bringing the project to Ghana but it seems Angela is not excited about the lack of support from the government of Ghana.

 The project employed a crew of over 120 talented individuals and featured a stellar cast comprising more than 50 actors, with filming taking place in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

But Angela White had some concerns and shared this experience in Ghana I her submission, “I brought a lot of revenue to Ghana and the reason why my next project, probably South Africa, is because I got nowhere with the Ghanaian government.

“It really became a battle and so I’m happy to see Idris take this fight because if they don’t start getting country credits, the work’s gonna go to South Africa.” She commended the efforts of the likes of Idris Elba, who has been actively championing Ghana’s growing film industry.

Angela White, who has worked on a number of productions including ‘4Play’, ‘The Last Letter’, ‘The Sin Seer’, My Favourite Five’ was however hopeful the government of Ghana will come to recognise the economic benefits and cultural exchange that foreign partnerships brings.
