‘Boakye Agyarko, Hope of Ghanaians’

Boakye Agyarko

A spokesperson of one of the presidential hopefuls of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),

Dr. Benjamin Ashitey, has hinted that Boakye Agyarko will introduce top-notch policies aimed at transforming and giving hope to Ghanaians when elected as the flagbearer of the party and subsequently becomes President of Ghana.

Speaking to the DAILY GUIDE last Friday shortly after picking a nomination form for Mr. Agyarko at the party’s headquarters in Accra, he said with passion that Mr. Agyarko is the ideal person to help transform Ghana’s economic difficulties given his track record in the political space and wide range of experience.

“Boakye Agyarko is the symbol for the new hope of Ghana. The engine room of public policies in Ghana is Boakye Agyarko, talk about free SHS for example and you will appreciate what it has done in NPP and capable of doing when he is elected to lead the party,” he said.

All the candidates are good, but the best person is Boakye Agyarko, who has always been one of the brains behind key policies for the party, he added.

He said the frequent power outages inherited by the NPP in 2017 ended under the leadership of Boakye Agyarko as the Minister for Energy.

He stated that Boakye Agyarko, as a minister during the first term of President Akufo-Addo, put in place measures that adequately resolved the frequent power outages till today.

He said apart from serving as the Energy Minister, Mr. Agyarko has also contributed significantly in various capacities as a founding member of the party.

Before his appointment as the Minister of Energy, Mr. Agyarko was the campaign manager for President Akufo-Addo in the 2012 elections and also worked as the policy advisor for the NPP in the 2016 elections.

The spokesperson, who touted Mr. Agyarko’s achievement as remarkable, therefore, appealed to Ghanaians especially delegates to disregard the “noise around them which is a characteristic of all elections and elect Mr. Agyarko to lead the party to bring hope and make life comfortable for the ordinary Ghanaian.”

He said evidence from all the sixteen regions his team had visited, showed that Mr. Agyarko’s chances of ‘breaking the 8’ for the party was brighter, hence the need for the delegates to give him the nod to bear the flag of the party in 2024.

“We have toured the sixteen regions twice and they tell us, he is the missing link they have been looking for in the NPP. Boakye Agyarko knows what the ordinary Ghanaian needs and will be able to fulfil these needs when he is voted to lead the party,” he added.

He said Mr. Agyarko as well as his team were not surprised with the positive feedback from the public, especially delegates, because Mr. Agyarko has constantly been in touch with them though he has not been in the limelight for sometime now.

Dr. Ashitey said they may come in full force after the electoral college system election prescribed by the party’s constitution to reduce the number of aspirants contesting for the flagbearer position if they are more than five.

He said it may not be prudent for his team to focus on the main congress while the super delegates’ congress is pending.

Other flagbearer hopefuls who also picked their nomination forms on Friday include Kwabena Agyapong, Francis Addai-Nimoh and Kofi Konadu Apraku.

Flagbearer aspirants who are yet to pick their nomination form in the coming days are MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong; Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen; former Minister of Railway Development, Joe Ghartey and former Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto.
