Burkinabe Coach Seydou Zerbo Krol Has Been Fired By Asante Kotoko Just After His First Home Defeat.

Seydou Zerbo, head coach of the betPawa Premier league’s defending champion Kumasi Asante Kotoko, has been fired.

After being defeated by Medeama Sporting Club in Week 26 of the betPawa Premier League, Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s management team officially announced this on Monday morning.

The Burkinabe international gaffer, who was hired in August 2022 and replaced Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, has been with the team for six months and has participated in 23 competitive games since his hiring by the management.

In his first major assignment after being formally accepted by the management, Seydou Zerbo played in two CAF Champions League matches and lost one, winning away against RC Kadiogo and losing at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Seydou Zerbo led the Porcupine Warriors to nine league wins, seven drawn games, and five losses in the betPawa Premier League, totalling 34 points out of a possible 72 points in the 2022-2023 season.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko failed to score a goal at home for the first time in the season and was defeated at home for the first time after ten games, Medeama FC got two goals in either half at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium last Sunday evening causing the dismissal of the Burkinabe.

In a post-game interview with StarTimes, Zerbo revealed that Kotoko’s players did not follow tactical instructions during the game on Sunday night.

“Today our game plan didn’t work, we lost concentration and lacked determination. The players couldn’t apply the tactical instructions,” the Burkinabe trainer revealed.

The official Twitter handle of the Porcupine Warriors, @AsanteKotoko_SC, published the termination of Zerbo’s contract on Monday, which had the caption, “Management of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club and Coach Seydou Zerbo has this morning mutually agreed to part ways. Coach Abdul Gazale has been tasked to take charge as Acting Head Coach.”

The departure of the Burkinabe comes just a few days after he returned to the club after a two-week bereavement leave to bury his 10-year-old son.
