Health students association gives govt 24hr to pay allowances

The National Health Students Association of Ghana has given government a 24-hour ultimatum to pay their allowances which have been in arrears for 8 months.

This comes after the association petitioned Parliament to put pressure on government to release funds for their payments.

President of the association, Daniel Onomah Asamoah says they would hit the streets if government and the Finance Ministry fails to pay the allowances due them.

“Currently the Ministry of Finance has to be involved because if the Ministry of Finance has not issued our clearance, the Ministry of Health has little to do. When you go, it will be the same old story that they are waiting for the Finance Ministry to issue clearance before they will proceed. That has been the issue at stake now. We had some engagements with the Ministry of Health, we submitted the petition last October.

“Right now we don’t want to come out with our step, we are following the roadmap by giving the government the benefit of the doubt. There’s that assurance that they are working on it. We sent a letter with an ultimatum for them to respond to us, so we are waiting for them to respond within that time frame, if not we will take the next action,” President of the National Health Students Association of Ghana said.
