Excluding ‘Fa No Fom’ from VGMA ‘Most Popular Song’ list is robbery

Entertainment pundit and showbiz critic, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo has questioned the credibility of Charterhouse, organizers of the Vodafone Ghana Awards (VGMA).

According to Arnold, the reasons given by the Public Relations Officer of Charterhouse for not including DJ Azonto’s smash hit song ‘Fa No Fom’ in the ‘Most Popular Song’ category is untenable.

In a social media rant sighted by Amansan Krakye, the popular media discussant asked Charterhouse to explain when the VGMAs shifted from popularity to numbers.

He wrote “STREAMING NUMBERS?

“So, the PR of Charterhouse, Robert Klah- responding to an observer on Hitz FM, who is wondering how DJ Azonto’s ‘Fan no fom’ lost out to Stonebwoy’s ‘Therapy’ for the ‘Most Popular Song’ category, stated that, the following criteria was utilized to do the shortlisting;

“- Streaming numbers
– Endorsement/validation from the streets
– Non-streaming platforms
– On-air play

“Wait oo, wait a minute;

“When did the category definition change, how was it changed? What informed the change? Has the scheme shifted from popularity to numbers?

“When was stakeholders informed on these changes?

“Musing 🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️🤷🏿‍♂️,” he ended.

Many have expressed varied views after the 2023 VGMA nomination lists were released and one particular analyst has tagged Charterhouse as suffering from ‘Kwashiorkor and Beri Beri’.
