The news of a grandmother setting her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren ablaze in Ondo state has shocked and saddened the nation. Eyewitnesses narrated how they saw the house on fire around 2:00 am and had to break a window to rescue everyone in the house. Korede Michael, one of the eyewitnesses, stated that the grandmother got some dry palm fronds and petrol from a gallon kept for the generator, spread it around the house, and set it ablaze. He also stated that the suspect was not affected by the fire and that the children could not send her out of the house when she started behaving strangely because the house was built by her late husband.
The family members were rushed to the government hospital in Akure, but the doctors and nurses rejected them, citing the degree of burns. They were then taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo, where the two-year-old grandchild died upon arrival. The son and his wife also gave up the ghost, while the only surviving grandchild is in a critical condition.
Police sources said that the suspect confessed to burning her son and his family because they starved her of food. This revelation has left many wondering if there were any underlying issues that led to this unfortunate incident.
