Being A University Graduate Does Not Guarantee You A Job – Senyo Hosi |

Finance and Policy Economic Analyst, Senyo Hosi has stated that university graduates are not entitled to immediate employment after completing school.

The economist told Rev Erskine, host of Y107.9FM’s YLeaderboard series in an interview that employers in today’s job market are not in search of degree holders but rather, individuals with skills that have been developed during the period of their schooling which he indicated are embedded through the course of study. These skills, he believed, can only be attained by intentional efforts.

“You are entitled to opportunities that help you impact, so you have to invest in the skills that help you impact. I’m not looking for your degree as an employer, I am really looking for the skills you have; if you have done Political Science I don’t care, do you have a certain skill I need?; All those things are built in our education in different ways but are not clear, they are things you have to pick.” he enlightened.

Mr Hosi mentioned during the interview that many people have attained skills without necessarily attending university and are thriving in the job market. Hence saying “When you are educated, it is an indication of skills you may have but what gives you growth wherever you are, is actually the skill you practice; what you deliver; I always tell people to forget about efforts, it is the value you deliver in any economic space that sets you apart.”

The entrepreneur noted that building skills is a prerequisite activity that must be taken seriously by university graduates, specifically the youth, if they want to be employed.
