Embakasi East constituency member of Parliament hon Babu Owino has issued a statement over the ugly incidents that were witnessed when Meru University students demonstrated demanding the reinstatement of the university vice chancellor who was sent on terminal leave.
It started in the morning hours when the students started bonfire along Meru Maua road thus paralyzing transport and businesses in the region.
The students demanded that professor Romanus Odhiambo who was the vice chancellor be reinstated to the office since he had raised the standards of education and infrastructure in the institution.
During the demonstration, a chase game between the police and the students was witnessed as the police used teargas to disperse the rowdy students.
A good number of students were arrested by the police officers and awaits to be arraigned in court.
Hon Babu who is well known for fighting for the welfare of university students demanded that the police officers release the students who were arrested during the protests.
