How Influential UDA MP Rose From The Political Ashes To Become One Of Ruto’s Key Allies

When she lost the Kipipiri MP seat race to Amos Kimunya in 2007, Faith Wairimu Gitau appeared politically dead and buried. But today, she is at inner sanctums of power having won the trust of President William Ruto.

As one of the Commissioners at the powerful Parliamentary Service Commission, Gitau enjoys too much influence and power.

Now serving her second term as Nyandarua Women Representative, the legislator is the epitome of perseverance and resilience.

Having been given baptism by fire in 2007 when she challenged a powerful government minister, Gitau once again tried her luck in 2013 when she ran for the Nyandarua County MP seat but lost controversially to Wanjiku Muhia during the TNA party nominations.

She took time off and decided to wait for the right time to come! And when that time came, there was no making mistake!

Convinced that she had what it takes to trounce Muhia during Jubilee Party nominations, Gitau threw the hat into the ring. This time round, the incumbent found herself on the receiving end. She was elected as an MP for the first time with a landslide.

Though she considered running for Governor in 2022, she decided to shelve her ambitions and instead opted to defend her seat as an MP. Once again, she was elected with a landslide.

Now a key member of the Ruto inner circle, Gitau is one of the few women in the country who have the ear of the President. She rose from the ashes of the 2007 defeat to become a key pillar of the ruling party and its leadership.
