He was the best person in the football world to outline solutions to the Ghana Premier League’s recent ailment, which is that Accra Hearts of Oak recorded an undefended amount of gate proceeds in their game against Tamale City at Cape Coast Sports Stadium in 2023.
A long list of factors, a lack of entertainment in Ghanaian football, has led to poor support of Ghana’s top-flight league, according to Accra Hearts of Oak Board Member Vincent Sowah Odotei.
In recent years, the Ghana Premier League (GPL) has struggled with low stadium attendance, making it difficult for clubs to generate the necessary gate receipts to support themselves.
Numerous radio stations in Kumasi, along with Nhyira FM and Luv FM, have launched a radio campaign to draw attention to the reasons for the low attendance at premier league games and to promote suggestions to increase support for the local league.
Sowah Odotei emphasized that Ghana football lacked the anticipated entertainment that will draw and motivate fans to watch games at the stadiums in an exclusive interview on Nhyira FM.
The Board Member stated, “The betPawa Premier League does not have entertainment traits, but during the early 2000s, there were some music artists that performed at some stadiums before kick-off, and at some point, they performed at halftime of the game, and the fans enjoyed their presence at the game centres. However, that factor has recently been absent from our games.”
