The directive on automatic employment to all the engaged staff of the Nasarawa State College of Education (COE), Akwanga has been flouted by the Dr. Jonathan Thani-led administration.
Mostly affected were the engaged staff with the institution’s Demonstration School who have been serving for a record period of 8-9 years.
A white paper report of a high-powered committee constituted in 2020 reportedly recommended automatic employment to the engaged staff which Governor Abdullahi A. Sule approved.
The report had also captured the names of the engaged staff to be enlisted for permanent appointment those with Demonstration School.
However, there seem to be issues with the engaged staff in the institution’s Demonstration School as only few of them are believed to have been enlisted for appointment.
The fate of the Engaged staff is hanging, and anxiety is on the high side, as appointment letters are being issued to newly recruited staff by management since on Monday, January 16.
An engaged staff with Demonstration School who spoke with n-Mirror on Wednesday called on Governor Sule to urgently intervene.
“People are volunteering in the institution but were neglected because they know no politicians
“People were brought from outside. These people are not even Educationists, but simply because they have people who stood for them,” the staff who spoke under condition of anonymity said.
“I want to draw the attention of the State Government to this unfair treatment. This is unfair. It’s very unfair and uncalled for. We can’t continue like this in this country.
“As we speak the engaged staff who their own supposed to be automatic, don’t even know their fate because they have not collected but outsiders have collected,” he lamented.
Also neglected were casual and voluntary staff of the institution after been asked to apply.
Thani who succeeded late Dr. Rebecca Umaru in 2021 is only few days away to clock 2-years in office as Provost of the state owned institution.
Meanwhile, media aides of some serving members of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA) have taken to social media to laud the lawmakers for securing jobs for loyalists.
