FG Concludes CONUA Registration, Says Lecturers Liberated From ASUU Bondage

The Federal Government has concluded the registration process of Congress of University Academics (CONUA).

The minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, who disclosed this to journalists shortly after a closed-door meeting with the leadership of CONUA led by its President, ‘Niyi Sunmonu, also warned the union not to “behave like the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

Ngige officially handed the Trade Dispute Act, the official certificate of registration, and the official gazette to the heads of the two newly established unions to complete the registration process.

He urged the unions to operate freely at all of the nation’s colleges without fear of intimidation, claiming that the government had decided to “break monolithic” of ASUU due to the harm it had caused to the system of public universities.

Security agencies were tasked by Ngige to stay vigilant and prevent attacks on CONUA members.

Remember that the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation sent out an internal memo over the weekend asking for the contact information of every union member so that their withheld salaries may be paid out.
