According to a news that was published by the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper Online this morning, it was reported that the Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, while speaking with some journalists yesterday, has revealed how an APC chairman in Sokoto State, refused to accept the scholarship that was awarded to his two daughters by the PDP-led government.
When he was talking during the interview, he said his administration decided to take some of their children overseas for medical-related courses and they came up with a programme where he insisted that, the programme must be spread across the state and each of the 23 Local Government Areas must have its representative which will be a student that will be selected based on merit and not sentiment.
He said, “After the examination, two daughters of an APC chairman won my scholarship to study abroad but, he did not allow them to go. The two daughters of the APC chairman in Sokoto, Honourable Isa Sadiq, passed the examination. Most of my friends and political associates know that if I take a position on something, none of them can approach me to bend it to favour anyone. They know I would not do it and none of them ever approached me for such.”
Further talking, he said the chairman of the board came to him and said, ‘Your Excellency, two of the children of the APC chairman qualified for the scholarship, what do we do about it ?’ and he (Tambuwal) asked him, ‘Are they not indigenes of the state ? Let them go.’
Tambuwal said, “But unfortunately, the APC chairman denied his children from benefiting from it, because of politics.”
