Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) is here with us and as things stand, the country will full transition from 8-4-4 system of education to CBC. The first group of CBC learners will transition to Junior Secondary Schools January this year. Junior secondary schools will be domicile in primary schools this is according to recommendations of an education task force that was formed by President William Ruto.
December last year, grade six learners sat for Kenya Primary Schools Education Assessment (KPSEA) test. Many expected that exam will be used to place grade six learners in junior secondary. However, education cabinet secretary Ezekiel Machogu said that exam will not be used for placement as learners will remain in their respective primary schools.
As a result, education experts want Ministry of education to scrap off KPSEA examination. Speaking to the Citizen TV in Day Break, education expert Dr John Mugo opined that going forward KPSEA exams should be removed because it is unnecessary as all learners will will transition to Grade Seven.
Should this happen, then it will be a relief to teachers and learners as they will not waste time preparing for an exam that is not used for placement.
