Attempt To Destroy Nigeria Failed, Says Buhari

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Monday in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, said God foiled “deliberate attempts to destroy Nigeria.”

Buhari also said the country has “bounced back” from its troubled days; thanking members of the Armed Forces and the Police for their sacrifices in protecting the country.

“There was a deliberate attempt to destroy Nigeria but God did not permit it,’’ Buhari said at the palace of the Emir of Damaturu, Hashimi II El-Kanemi.

This is according to a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.

Polls May Be Postponed, Cancelled — INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has lamented the growing wave of election-related insecurity across the country, expressing fears that the trend, if not checked, could lead to the cancellation or postponement of the forthcoming general polls.

Noting that the development could hinder the declaration of election results and precipitate a constitutional crisis, the electoral umpire called for concerted efforts to stem the tide of violence.

Chairman, Board of The Electoral Institute TEI, INEC’s training arm, Professor Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, made the observation, yesterday, in Abuja at the idation of election security training resources.

I Postponed Medical Trip For Campaign – Ortom

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom said on Monday that he cancelled his medical vacation to intensify campaign for the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the state.

Ortom also added that the party will work tirelessly to dismantle “evil forces” against the state.

The governor made the disclosure while addressing the PDP caucus meeting in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

This is as he said that he would work around the clock to educate the public about the evil determined on assuming the state plum seat.

Gunmen Demanded N620m For Abducted

The Executive Director, Esan Youth for Good Governance and Social Justice, Benson Odia, on Monday, said the alleged kidnappers who abducted passengers at the Tom Ikimi Train Station in Igueben, Edo State on Saturday had made contact with some families of the kidnap victims and demanded N20 million for each victim.

Odia said the demand was absurd, calling on the authorities to intensify efforts in rescuing the 31 abducted persons that are still being held captive by their abductees.

He also said that the Minister of Transportation and the Nigeria Railway Corporation boss were at Igueben to assess the situation themselves.
