PDP Vice Chairman dumps Atiku for Tinubu as APC’s Benson flags off campaign

The Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State and leader of the party in Lagos East Senatorial District, Otunba Amid Adekunle Oduborisha, has dumped the party as he joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at a rally in the Ikorodu area of the state yesterday. Oduborisha and his AMIKO group were formally received into the APC at the flag-off ceremony of the campaign of Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, a representative of the Ikorodu Federal Constituency who is seeking re-election.

At the ceremony held at the Ikorodu Ferry Terminal, Benson, who was received by a mammoth crowd, urged the residents of Ikorodu to be loyal to the APC. He urged them to cast a sizable number of ballots for every member of the party running for office in the 2023 general elections, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for president, Babajide Sanwoolu for governor, Tokuboh Abiru for senator, and himself and Gbolahan Ogunleye for the House of Assembly.

Speaking during the gathering, which was attended by important party leaders from all around the state, Oduborisha announced his defection and said that he joined the APC to support Asiwaju Tinubu’s bid for the presidency. Yes, I’m going back to the APC and not leaving like some other people. I belong here, so I’m returning to my house. My reintegration into the APC is true. Asiwaju Tinubu and all other APC candidates will win, and that is why I’m here to make sure of it. With his performance, Hon. Benson has given me new reasons to have faith in the APC. He has demonstrated how to properly employ the people’s mandate for the people.

Jimi Benson is a blessing to the people of Ikorodu, and I’m glad to be here today, he remarked.

Benson was lauded by speakers at the occasion, which featured Fuji maestro Wasiu Ayinde (K1) on the bandstand, as they remembered the numerous democratic benefits he brought to the constituency since his election as a representative of the people. The first Food Bank in Nigeria’s history, his monthly “Mercy Bag” distribution, the countless infrastructure improvements he made throughout Ikorodu, and his multiple legislative initiatives on the lower chamber’s floor were all mentioned. JB is a unique legislator. As the chairman of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Hon. Sesan Daini, put it, “He listens to the people and goes out of his way to make sure he pleases them.
