Raila Opens up, Reveals Who Has Been Going to State House With His Permission

ODM leader Raila Odinga now says that the opposition elected leaders working with President William Ruto are doing so with his permission.

A section of opposition politicians, mostly governors elected through the Azimio La Umoja member parties, have been associating themselves with Ruto.

This has brought with it the narrative that they have abandoned the opposition and it’s leadership now that the former Prime Minister has nothing to offer.

But Raila says that he has allowed them to work with Ruto, and even those going to State House to meet the Head of State have his permission.

“The relationship between the national government and the county governments is well enshrined in the constitution. When you see an ODM governor going to the statehouse it doesn’t mean that they have decamped,” the leader said on Friday, as is quoted by The Star.

Raila, who flew the Azimio presidential flag in the August 2022 general elections, made the remarks during a meeting with ODM elected leaders and a section of delegates in Mombasa.

Raila noted that collaboration between county and national governments is something enshrined in the law, blocking him from preventing his governors from working with the Head of State even if he wanted to.

He now wants Ruto to do the necessary to ensure that counties fully dispense services to Kenyans, urging him to be quick in disbursing county funds.

“The constitution is very clear on how revenues should be shared to counties, he is not doing you a favour so don’t bootlick him to get your share of the revenues,” he added.

But Raila’s defeat has also seen him lose some of his allies to Ruto, some of whom have publicly decamped and are now pledging allegiance to Ruto.
