A six-year-old boy in the United States (US) opened fire in an elementary school classroom in the eastern state of Virginia on Friday where a teacher was seriously injured.
No students were injured during the incident at Richneck Elementary School.
The suspect is in police custody as the police said this was not an accidental shooting.
The teacher who was seriously injured and believed to be in a life-threatening condition was in her 30s.
Superintendent of the city’s school, George Parker, said he is shocked and disheartened over the unfortunate incident.
He added that the support of the community is needed to ensure that guns are not available to youth.
Last year, an estimated 44,000 gun-related deaths recorded in the US. Half of the murder cases, accidents and self-defence, and the other half of them suicides.
There is need to regulate the use of guns to avert the incidences of last year.
