Champions Manchester City ultimately managed to get the job done on Thursday night, edging past Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to close the gap on leaders Arsenal at the summit of the Premier League. The Sky Blues, of course, made the trip to west London a short time ago. After the aforementioned Arsenal dropped a pair of points in a meeting with high-flying Newcastle United earlier in the week, Pep Guardiola and co. were aware that a 2nd victory on the spin would see them close the gap to just five points. And, when all was said and done, emerge triumphant is precisely what City went on to do, plunging Chelsea into further crisis in the process.
Chelsea were beaten by Pep Guardiola’s superior squad as Manchester City claimed a 1-0 win in the Premier League, despite Thiago Silva and Carney Chukwuemeka impressing. Substitute Jack Grealish’s cross was turned in by fellow reserve star Riyad Mahrez to earn all three points in City’s title race with Arsenal. It was harsh on the Blues who spent large parts of the match dominating even after losing both Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic to injury early in the first half.
Well, Denis Zakaria made his third straight appearance for Chelsea in the game as he performed impressively against Man City. I believe his stunning display in the game explains why Chelsea needs to sign him permanently after his loan spell at the club. The 25-year-old is presently on loan at Chelsea and will return to Juventus at the end of the season if Chelsea don’t permanently sign him.
