Chelsea’s poor run of form continues as they lost to Manchester City 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Thursday evening. Former Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez scored the only goal of the game as the Cityzens secured all three points.
After the game, Chelsea manager Graham Potter reveals why his team lost to Manchester City
Chelsea boss Graham Potter, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It still hurts, we’re disappointed but at the same time there were a lot of positives I suppose. There was a lot to like about our performance against a top opponent. We had courage, we had spirit, and the boys gave everything. We had to adjust a couple of times early in the game, I thought we did that really well. At the same time, we tried to ask Manchester City questions about the attack.
“I thought it was a tough game, an even game I would say. Obviously, Manchester City have quality, you can see that from the bench they bring on, it affects the game of course. We’re not in the same place because of different things.
“But overall the positives are there, I liked the team, and the crowd reacted well to it. But we’re disappointed to not get any points.
“I’m really pleased with our young players. They’re just taking their first steps, it’s a big step for them to represent Chelsea and try to compete and get into the starting XI. They’ve been working hard at training.”
