Vote Leaders Who Value Education—Lecturers

The Academic Staff Union Universities and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics have advised Nigerians to vote for leaders who will invest in education.

The National Presidents of ASUU and ASUP, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke and Dr Anderson Ezeibe, respectively, told our correspondent in an interview that the only way strike could be avoided in the education sector and general progress made was if Nigerians should elect leaders that believed in education.

Osodeke explained that “I hope after the election, we will have somebody who believes in education as the catalyst for the growth of the country because the recent government doesn’t believe in it. The catalyst for growth for any government is an investment in education, especially tertiary education.

Why Obasanjo Didn’t Endorse Atiku—Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike on Monday said former President, Olusegun Obasanjo did not endorse the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar because he is a bad product.

Obasanjo had endorsed the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi ahead of his former vice president, Atiku on Sunday.

Reacting to the development, Wike stated that a bad product is always difficult to sell, otherwise, Obasanjo would have recommended Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to Nigerians having worked together with him.

But, instead of doing so, Wike noted, that the former president chose to endorsed another presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Rev. Alfred Martins, has urged Nigerians to seek divine guidance in the quest for peace in 2023, to ensure that the New Year is free from chaos and anarchy.

In a homily delivered at the 2023 New Year Mass, in which the 56th World Day of Peace was also celebrated, at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos, the prelate thanked Almighty God for the gift of the New Year and charged all Nigerians to play active roles in the forthcoming general election by ensuring that they vote-in only God-fearing leaders, who are capable of leading the country towards the path of prosperity.

While admitting that Nigerians went through very turbulent experiences in the year 2022, Archbishop Martins noted that what the country needs now are God-fearing leaders who will wipe away the tears of the citizens.

All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has restated his readiness to end fuel subsidy if elected President next month.

Tinubu, in a brief interview at the weekend with Freedom Radio in Saudi Arabia for Lesser Hajj, described subsidy regime as anti-poor.
