{"id":987732,"date":"2022-02-12T13:29:18","date_gmt":"2022-02-12T13:29:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/12\/minority-accuses-akufo-addo-of-insensitivity-for-using-luxurious-private-jet\/"},"modified":"2022-02-12T13:29:18","modified_gmt":"2022-02-12T13:29:18","slug":"minority-accuses-akufo-addo-of-insensitivity-for-using-luxurious-private-jet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/12\/minority-accuses-akufo-addo-of-insensitivity-for-using-luxurious-private-jet\/","title":{"rendered":"Minority accuses Akufo-Addo of insensitivity for using luxurious private jet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/Akufo-Addo-flight6-691x424-1.jpeg\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The Minority in Parliament has for the umpteenth time accused President Nana Akufo-Addo of insensitivity to the plight of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n<p>According to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) legislators, the decision by the President to once again embark on his 10-day trip to some European countries and Guyana on a chartered luxurious private jet, at a time when government is seeking to introduce the E-Levy, is the highest level of disregard for the sufferings of the masses.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the media in Parliament on Friday, the Minority\u2019s Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said the President is spending over GH\u00a24 million on his trip.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p><div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"ziYJnYq6NMg\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa: Minority Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs \u2013 Joy News Prime (11-2-22)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ziYJnYq6NMg?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIn the midst of these demonstrations and all the widespread agitations, the President, at 1pm yesterday, took off on the ultra-luxurious LXDIO which cost the Ghanaian taxpayer $14,000 an hour.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis sixth nation tour, we have done the conservative estimate. At the end of the tour, when the President returns, he would have spent a colossal amount of $776,000. At today\u2019s exchange, that is some GH\u00a24.9 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are saying this strengthens our resolve that we remain opposed to the E-levy. We would do everything in our power to ensure that this E-levy does not see the light of day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>But in a sharp rebuttal, the Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, accused the Minority of engaging in needless populism.<\/p>\n<p>According to the Effutu Member of Parliament, the E-Levy is a game-changer that must be embraced by all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is an important levy.
