{"id":985394,"date":"2022-02-10T13:40:28","date_gmt":"2022-02-10T13:40:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/10\/ndc-stages-protest-against-e-levy\/"},"modified":"2022-02-10T13:40:28","modified_gmt":"2022-02-10T13:40:28","slug":"ndc-stages-protest-against-e-levy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/10\/ndc-stages-protest-against-e-levy\/","title":{"rendered":"NDC Stages Protest Against E-Levy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress, led by its Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, and General Secretary, Johnson Aseidu Nketia on Thursday hit the streets to demonstrate against the introduction of the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) currently before\u00a0Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>The NDC Members who were clad mostly in red were spotted wielding placards with various inscriptions and rained insults on the Akufo-Addo led government.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the inscriptions written on the placards were; \u201cBawumia\u2019s silence on E-Levy very alarming\u201d, \u201cHe used to be an economic talkative\u201d, \u201cPay UTAG, students are suffering\u201d, \u201cWe will not accept the E-Levy in any shape\u201d among others.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-354379\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/IMG-20220210-WA0010-300x235.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"235\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0demonstration\u00a0which is dubbed \u201cYentua demo\u201d (We won\u2019t pay) was masterminded by the NDC and joined by other civil society groups.<\/p>\n<p>NDC National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo addressing members after roaming on the streets of Accra\u00a0said the youth can no longer tolerate the economic mismanagement under the Akufo-Addo administration.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, \u201cNow after you have toiled and worked, Akufo-Addo\u00a0says he is going to deduct 1.75 percent as E-Levy, we won\u2019t pay, we won\u2019t pay\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed, \u201cThis is the beginning of a series of collaborative networks between various civil society organizations, political parties who share the same vision with us, social groups to conduct series of engagement and to announce to government that we will never pay the E-Levy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-354380\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/IMG-20220210-WA0009-300x191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>Ofosu Ampofo lamented that \u201cIf you love Ghana, come out and join us tell the government \u2018enough is enough, we won\u2019t pay the E-Levy\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The opposition members after the routine walk later stormed Parliament to present a petition to the House.<\/p>\n<p><!-- AI CONTENT END 2 -->\n\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress, led by its Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, and General Secretary, Johnson Aseidu Nketia on Thursday hit the streets to demonstrate against the introduction of the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) currently before\u00a0Parliament.
