\n Accra, Feb. 09, GNA – The appointment of Mr Yaw Kwakwa, Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has been terminated.<\/p>\n

Mr Hassan Tampuli, Deputy Minister of Transport, confirmed Mr Kwakwa\u2019s dismissal to journalists when Parliament\u2019s Roads and Transport Committee inspected the McDan Aviation facility at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Wednesday, February 09, 2022.<\/div>\n
Mr Tampuli\u2019s confirmation comes on the back of a leaked letter circulating in the media space suggesting that President Nana Addo Dankwa-Akufo Addo had terminated Mr Kwakwa\u2019s appointment.<\/div>\n
A letter dated February 04, 2022, signed by the Mr Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Minister of Transport, and addressed to the Board Chairman of the GACL, directed the Company\u2019s Board to take the necessary steps to give effect to the directive.<\/div>\n
The letter did not indicate the reason for the termination of Mr Kwakwa\u2019s appointment.<\/div>\n
However, Mr Kwakwa, who was leading Parliament\u2019s Transport Committee to inspect McDan Aviation\u2019s facility, told journalists that he had not been informed about the termination of his appointment.<\/div>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t know what you are talking about. My appointment has not been terminated so if you have any evidence\u2026 I don\u2019t know about it,… but when I get to that bridge I will cross it,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n
Mr Kwakwa was appointed as MD of the GACL in 2019. He took over from Mr John Dekyem Attafuah, who was equally relieved of his duty after serving from 2017.<\/div>\n
Mr Kwakwa served as Deputy MD of the GACL prior to his appointment as Acting MD and later confirmed as the substantive MD.<\/div>\n
Mr Kwakwa\u2019s administration had not been stable over the period following persistent agitations by staff of the GACL who had called for his removal from office.<\/div>\n
In a petition to President Akufo-Addo through the Chief of Staff in 2020, the staff of GACL accused Mr Kwakwa of mismanagement and \u201clack of understanding of the critical Aviation Industry.\u201d<\/div>\n
The petition further accused him of, \u201crefusal to implement several interview reports for over two years, and also outsourcing key aspects of the Company\u2019s operations at exorbitant cost \u2013 notwithstanding the availability of in-house capacity.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
