{"id":982177,"date":"2022-02-08T14:54:05","date_gmt":"2022-02-08T14:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/08\/how-i-got-my-nickname-general-mosquito\/"},"modified":"2022-02-08T14:54:05","modified_gmt":"2022-02-08T14:54:05","slug":"how-i-got-my-nickname-general-mosquito","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/08\/how-i-got-my-nickname-general-mosquito\/","title":{"rendered":"How I got my nickname &#8216;General Mosquito&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"464\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Mosquito-696x464.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Asiedu Nketia\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Asiedu Nketia<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has revealed how he got his popular nickname \u2018General Mosquito\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The 63-year-old veteran politician said members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) gave him that name after he single-handedly fought against the nomination of a Minister during the first term of the Agyekum Kufuor-led regime.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, though he was not the Minority Leader then, he was a close confidant of the Minority Leader, Alban Bagbin, and a thorn in the flesh of the Majority.<\/p>\n<p>The nickname, he revealed, was strategically carved by the Majority side to ridicule him but it backfired as he graciously embraced the name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was named General Mosquito by the NPP who thought that it was going to dampen my spirit but as a teacher, the best way to deal with nicknames was to adopt and adapt to them so I did just that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy the time we got to the apex of the debate, I was alone.
