{"id":979783,"date":"2022-02-07T10:13:34","date_gmt":"2022-02-07T10:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/07\/pressure-mounts-on-speaker-to-resign\/"},"modified":"2022-02-07T10:13:34","modified_gmt":"2022-02-07T10:13:34","slug":"pressure-mounts-on-speaker-to-resign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/07\/pressure-mounts-on-speaker-to-resign\/","title":{"rendered":"Pressure Mounts On Speaker To Resign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong> Alban Bagbin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A call has been made to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to resign on the grounds of infirmness.<\/p>\n<p>The call from former CPP acting General Secretary, James Kwabena Bomfeh Jnr, aka Kabila, is hinged on grounds of ill-health, principle, and conscience to save Ghana\u2019s Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>An earlier call from veteran journalist, Kweku Baako Jnr, on similar grounds reads, \u201cStep aside.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kweku Baako Jnr\u2019s call, made a month ago, had it that should the Speaker\u2019s ill-health impede his function in Parliament, he should resign.<\/p>\n<p>His intermittent absence from Parliament, a situation occasioned by his ill-health, has come under sharp focus of late.<\/p>\n<p>The issue of the controversial E-Levy has for instance enhanced discussions about the Speaker\u2019s intermittent absence from the House.<\/p>\n<p>The anomaly is said to be impeding the work of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>He is out of the country now undergoing a routine, what is said to chemotherapy, over a prostate condition in Dubai.<\/p>\n<p>It is against this background that Mr. Bomfeh appealed to the conscience of the Speaker to save himself and the parliamentary practice, to sustain the nation\u2019s democratic journey.<\/p>\n<p>However, Kabila, who has launched a campaign he christened: \u201c# Let\u2019s Save Bagbin, LSB\u201d emphasised the Speaker\u2019s vow not to allow any impediment in the work of Parliament under his speakership.<\/p>\n<p>The call, therefore, was meant to demand adherence to the Speaker\u2019s vow not to disturb the House with his ill-health.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><!-- AI CONTENT END 2 -->\n\t<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alban Bagbin A call has been made to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to resign on the grounds of infirmness.
