{"id":979000,"date":"2022-02-06T19:22:49","date_gmt":"2022-02-06T19:22:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/06\/covid-19-and-burkina-coup-affecting-revenue-mobilization-in-hamile-customs\/"},"modified":"2022-02-06T19:22:49","modified_gmt":"2022-02-06T19:22:49","slug":"covid-19-and-burkina-coup-affecting-revenue-mobilization-in-hamile-customs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/06\/covid-19-and-burkina-coup-affecting-revenue-mobilization-in-hamile-customs\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 and Burkina coup affecting revenue mobilization in Hamile \u2013 Customs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\n                                                   Hamile (UWR), Feb. 06, GNA \u2013 Mr Gabriel Anokye, Senior Revenue Officer of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has bemoaned the dwindling revenue mobilization at the Hamile border due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the coup d&#8217;\u00e9tat in neighbouring Burkina-Faso.<\/p>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/1.21361040.jpg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"kMediaObject\"\/><\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/1.21361039.jpg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"kMediaObject\"\/><\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u202f \u202f \u202fHe said though the COVID-19 pandemic led to the closure of the country&#8217;s borders, which affected revenue mobilisation, the recent coup in Burkina Faso had worsened the situation, making it difficult to meet their targets.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u202f \u202f \u202fMr Anokye told the GNA in an interview at Hamile  that before the outbreak of COVID-19, about 1,200 long vehicles with goods used to pass through the border monthly but that have reduced to between 700 and 800 and further declined recently due to the coup d&#8217;etat in Burkina Faso.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u202f \u202f \u202f&#8221;Burkina Faso doesn&#8217;t have seaport and they rely on the Tema Port for imports, which we also generate a lot of revenue from. We sometimes get as much as GH\u00a212,000 from one vehicle depending on the goods in it&#8221;, he explained.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u202f \u202f \u202f&#8221;Again, because the borders are closed, the Ghanaian and Burkinabe traders are no longer transacting businesses as it were, which obviously has affected revenue mobilisation.
