President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged Kenyans to remember former President Daniel Moi\u2019s political mantra of \u2018siasa mbaya, maisha mbaya\u2019<\/em> as the country gear towards the August 9 General Election.\n<\/p>\n

In a speech read on his behalf by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru during the second anniversary of the death of Mzee Moi at Kabarak, Nakuru, President Kenyatta urged all leaders to unite and build the country by improving on the foundation that Kenya\u2019s second president helped established.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

\u201cAs we head into the General Election, let us remember Mzee Moi\u2019s mantra on the political environment; that siasa mbaya, maisha mbaya<\/em>,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n

He said Moi\u2019s passing not only left a void in the life of his family but also that of\u00a0the nation and the international community at large.<\/p>\n

\u201cMzee Moi was a pillar to his family, one of the founding fathers of our nation, a Pan-Africanist and a globally respected statesman,\u201d said President Kenyatta.\n<\/p>\n

President Kenyatta hailed Mzee Moi for uniting the nation and ensuring the country was peaceful despite civil strives in the region.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the rest of the region experienced volatility and strife, Mzee Moi put Kenya on the world map as an oasis of peace and a place of refuge for those fleeing conflict.\u201d <\/p>\n

Uhuru challenged leaders to ape Mzee Moi\u2019s servant\u2013leadership to make the country a better place for future generations.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI challenge leaders to ensure the decisions they take to improve the lives of our citizens because it is the best way to honour the struggles and memory of those who heroically struggled to build our nation,\u201d said President Kenyatta.\n<\/p>\n

Kanu Chairman Gideon Moi said as a family they still cherish Mzee Moi\u2019s memories and strive to live by values of honesty, discipline, industry and the strong Christian faith he nurtured.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s been two years since Mzee went to be with the Lord. We still cherish his memories as a family and strive to live by the values of honesty, discipline, industry and strong Christian faith he nurtured and inculcated in us,\u201d he tweeted.\n<\/p>\n

Senator Gideon\u2019s fellow principals in One Kenya Alliance (OKA) led by Wiper\u2019s Kalonzo Musyoka, NARC-K\u2019s Martha Karua, and United Democratic Party\u2019s Cyrus Jirongo attended the memorial. <\/p>\n

The former president died on February 4, 2020, at Nairobi Hospital after a short illness, aged 96.\n<\/p>\n

Moi was buried next to his late wife Lena Moi who died on July 22, 2004.\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
