{"id":975530,"date":"2022-02-04T01:59:31","date_gmt":"2022-02-04T01:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/04\/ship-owners-to-evacuate-about-200-empty-containers\/"},"modified":"2022-02-04T01:59:31","modified_gmt":"2022-02-04T01:59:31","slug":"ship-owners-to-evacuate-about-200-empty-containers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/02\/04\/ship-owners-to-evacuate-about-200-empty-containers\/","title":{"rendered":"Ship Owners to evacuate about 200 empty containers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\n                                                   Tema, Feb. 3, GNA &#8211; The Ship Owners and Agents Association, Ghana (SOAAG)\u00a0is to evacuate\u00a0about\u00a0200\u00a0empty containers from the state warehouse in the Port of Tema,\u00a0back into the custody of the various shipping lines.<\/p>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/1.21353191.jpg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"kMediaObject\"\/><\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Due to uncleared cargoes, many containers had been left sitting in the Tema Port, creating congestion and leading to negative revenue implications for the government and shipping lines, who are custodians or owners of these containers as it slows down maritime trade.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Madam Perpetual Osei Bonsu, Executive Secretary of SOAAG, interacting with the media on the issue, said the evacuation was necessary following years of effort\u00a0to have it done and clear the Port.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">She said in the past containers were being used for warehousing to support the system due to the lack of enough warehouses to take over the cargo.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Mr Mark Klutse, Chairman of the Technical Committee of SOAAG, on his part, explained that the non-returning of containers had dire consequences on the business of shipping lines.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">He said while uncleared cargoes were not the making of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), the expectation was that Customs\u00a0would\u00a0expedite processes\u00a0following its detention.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Mr Klutse stressed that \u201cyou have situations where containers have been moved to state warehouse and have been there for three to four years, and you would see containers which are 30 to 40 days being auctioned and one will ask why?<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">The executives of SOAAG also called for the rehabilitation of the state warehouse to better accommodate uncleared cargo.<\/p>\n<p>GNA<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tema, Feb. 3, GNA &#8211; The Ship Owners and Agents Association, Ghana (SOAAG)\u00a0is to evacuate\u00a0about\u00a0200\u00a0empty containers from the state warehouse in the Port of Tema,\u00a0back into the custody of the various shipping lines.
