A few weeks before Mia Wilson\u2019s wedding to her husband, she was baffled as a friend suddenly confessed that she thought she shouldn\u2019t marry him after all.<\/p>\n
Mia who lives in Brooklyn, in New York, was confused by the sudden declaration \u2013 before realising her pal meant she shouldn\u2019t because of their height difference.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s an unimportant issue for many \u2013 while\u00a0others feel so strongly about it, they have to let Mia know it\u2019s a problem.<\/p>\n
Writing about it in\u00a0Jezebel, Mia explained: \u201cIt took me a beat to realize why my otherwise non-catastrophizing friend was suddenly sure I was going to die in a\u00a0fire\u00a0due to a failure of heroism on the part of my incoming husband.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy husband is 5\u20195\u2019\u2019 and I am 6\u20190\u2019\u2019 tall \u2013 a seven-inch height difference that wouldn\u2019t be remarkable at all if our genders were reversed, but is apparently very alarming and confusing to some people.\u201d<\/p>\n
But despite her friend\u2019s concerns, this has never been an issue for Mia \u2013 who writes about an odd group of people who are\u00a0extremely bothered that a woman is in a relationship with a smaller man.<\/p>\n
In the past, she says strangers have walked up to them in the street, demanding to know how they have sex.<\/p>\n
On another occasion, a woman waited until they had finished kissing in a bar before walking up to ask if they were related, seemingly unable to comprehend their relationship.<\/p>\n
And when the happy couple announced their wedding in a newspaper \u2013 staff were baffled by the photo they sent to illustrate the announcement.<\/p>\n
So concerned were they, that Mia described the conversation a staff member had with them, after looking at the photo they had sent in to illustrate the announcement.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m so sorry, but the way you\u2019re positioned in the photo, your eyes are higher than your fianc\u00e9\u2019s, and it makes it look like you might be a couple of inches taller than him. Do you have any other photos,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n
\u201cI reassured him that I was in fact taller than he, but by seven inches, not two!, and that I had a whole lot of photos I could send over that illustrated this if he wanted. I was met with complete silence on the line.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was probably about ten seconds of silence, which felt like roughly three years.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite all the hassle \u2013 Mia reiterates that she doesn\u2019t care about other people\u2019s stereotypical assumptions about height.<\/p>\n
She adds: \u201cThe truth is, I don\u2019t see my husband\u2019s height, and he doesn\u2019t see mine.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is a brilliant, caring, deeply good, deeply funny person. I don\u2019t need to crane my head upward to kiss him in order to validate my gender identity, nor do I need to be perceived as smaller than the person I showed up to an event with to access whatever desired amount of femininity I want to access that day.\u201d<\/p>\n
The weirdness people can have about height doesn\u2019t stop if you\u2019re a celeb couple \u2013 as\u00a0Tom Holland\u00a0and\u00a0Zendaya\u00a0know.<\/p>\n
