Selorm Branttie, the Vice President of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education who doubles as the Global Strategy Director at mPedigree Network has asserted that, Ghanaians should anticipate rises in goods and services as fuel price is expected to keep increasing.<\/p>\n
In a post shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, 1st February 2022, he said,<\/p>\n
“Fuel will rise again at least 1 more time this month. Take note. For those who think we are happy with this, note this:<\/p>\n
Most of us don’t get fuel coupons. We pay for fuel from our incomes, most of which are fixed. When fuel rises, everything rises. Later on, the other taxes will kick in, things will rise further. If you are an employer, your workers will demand more money you don’t have. School fees will increase.”<\/p>\n
Selorm added that rent will increase. Household expenses won’t sit there quietly. Inflation is already rising. We are even paying for the covid expenditure every time we buy something that comes with a receipt. We are supposed to happily pay more things later in the year more taxes because apparently we aren’t relaxed enough.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“And of all the things you could say, I am happy with what’s going on? Why? Are you the one who receives the calls for small loans every week from friends and family? Are you the one who signs cheque to give me free money to spend? Seriously? Happy that people around me are in dispair? Is that all some of you think about? ” He quizzed.<\/p>\n
His comments comes as a background to the economical woes expected to be faced by Ghanaians as fuel prices are sharply increasing and the cedi is gradually depreciating to the dollars. Some believe that the cedi to dollar rate will hit 8cedis and the prices of fuel will also reach 8cedis.<\/p>\n
E-Levy, a tax on mobile money transactions is purported to be the savior of the economy if Parliament agree and pass the bill.<\/p>\n
