CAPE TOWN – While disgraced TV and media personality Katlego Maboe’s publicist has announced that he has been absolved of allegations of misconduct, made by his former partner Monique Muller in October 2020, Muller said this was a \u201cfalse narrative\u201d.<\/p>\n

In a statement, publicist Lerato Maleswena said Maboe had been absolved of the charges against him in the Cape Town Magistrate\u2019s Court.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe court agreed with the submission of a Point in Limine from Mr Maboe\u2019s legal team, ruling that there were no grounds for obtaining the protection order. Furthermore, the court has not made a finding of acts of domestic violence that were allegedly perpetrated against Ms Muller, and as such, the matter has been dismissed. This is a great victory for Mr Maboe, who has maintained his innocence throughout the two-year ordeal,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n

Muller, however, said the judgment was set aside due to there \u201cnot being any new acts of domestic violence in the past year and half after the protection order was issued\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven’t had a chance to read through the judgment document just yet but the matter was set aside so if any new incidents do occur, I am able to approach the courts again. Nowhere has he been found innocent for anything,\u201d said Muller.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Muller said she was \u201cso so so relieved\u201d that the matter had been settled.<\/p>\n

\u201cI actually spent the weekend celebrating with my family quietly,\u201d said Muller.<\/p>\n

Upon news of the allegations in 2020, Maboe suffered reputational damage, resulting in a loss of professional livelihood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This included the cancellation of his contract with OUTsurance and a suspension from his long-term contract with SABC 3\u2019s Expresso Morning Show.<\/p>\n

Last year, Maboe had sent letters of demand to his former girlfriend Muller, her brother Seth Muller, Women For Change, and the SA Film and Television Awards (Safta), to retract and apologise statements made against him.<\/p>\n

Maboe had demanded R1million in compensation for damages at the time.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Through his publicist statement, Maboe said: \u201cThe most important thing to me is the wellbeing of my son, and fortunately things have settled into a routine for him after being put through such a terrible and lengthy process. I am so grateful to my friends and family, and my incredible team for their ongoing support, and to the justice system for ruling in favour of the truth. I may never know or understand the real motive behind all of this destruction and heartache, but right now, I just want to focus on putting the pieces of my life back together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maleswena further stated in the statement: \u201cMaboe has a final harassment interdict granted against Seth Muller, who made damaging and unfounded allegations in support of Ms Muller\u2019s claims. He is also pursuing legal action against Women for Change founder, Sabrina Walter, and SA Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) chairperson of the judges, Dr Janet van Eeden, in this regard. A charge of criminal defamation is pending against Sabrina Walter in the Muizenberg Magistrate\u2019s Court for posting defamatory and untrue statements against Mr Maboe, which led to his removal as a SAFTA nominee in the category of Best TV Presenter. She is expected to appear in court soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
