{"id":773468,"date":"2022-01-31T05:49:04","date_gmt":"2022-01-31T05:49:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/31\/e-levy-is-the-solution-to-unemployment-in-ghana-joe-ghartey\/"},"modified":"2022-01-31T05:49:04","modified_gmt":"2022-01-31T05:49:04","slug":"e-levy-is-the-solution-to-unemployment-in-ghana-joe-ghartey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/31\/e-levy-is-the-solution-to-unemployment-in-ghana-joe-ghartey\/","title":{"rendered":"E-levy is the solution to unemployment in Ghana \u2013 Joe Ghartey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 17px;\">\n                                                   Takoradi, Jan 30, GNA &#8211; The Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado-Ketan Constituency, Mr Joe Ghartey has described the controversial E-levy as the solution to Ghana\u2019s unending employment problem.<\/p>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/1.21336994.jpeg\" width=\"100%\" height=\"\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" class=\"kMediaObject\"\/><\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">According to him,  the government was creating financial opportunities for the youth to leverage to create their jobs and employ more people.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Mr Ghartey in a media engagement expressed the hope that the E-levy would be a game-changer because it would broaden the tax net and help generate enough revenue for government projects.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">\u201cThere are some communities that do not even have one kilometre of tarred road, the government needs money for infrastructural development and the E-levy will be a solution for these major developments\u201d, he stated.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">On Wednesday, November 17, 2021, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance on behalf of the government presented the 2022 Budget indicating a 1.75 per cent charge on all electronic transactions.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">Since its announcement, the e-levy has been the topic of discussion as some citizens express dissatisfaction while there have been arguments between specialists concerning it and suffering the full attention of the hung parliament.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">For instance, the E-Commerce Association of Ghana has said the government\u2019s efforts to digitize the economy would be a waste if the E-levy takes effect in 2022.<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">It said, \u201cthe initiative would erode all gains made by government\u2019s digitization agenda and be a major U-turn to the government\u2019s vision on a Cash-lite economy.\u201d<\/div>\n<div class=\"kMultiLine\">According to a statement issued in Accra by Mr Paul Asinor, Executive Director of the Association said even though the initiative would expand the government\u2019s revenue collection base, the initiative had a far-reaching consequence on customers and in turn, their businesses if not carefully looked at.<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Takoradi, Jan 30, GNA &#8211; The Member of Parliament (MP) for Essikado-Ketan Constituency, Mr Joe Ghartey has described the controversial E-levy as the solution to Ghana\u2019s unending employment problem.
