{"id":768741,"date":"2022-01-27T18:16:51","date_gmt":"2022-01-27T18:16:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/27\/hong-kong-will-shorten-covid-19-quarantine-period-to-14-days\/"},"modified":"2022-01-27T18:16:51","modified_gmt":"2022-01-27T18:16:51","slug":"hong-kong-will-shorten-covid-19-quarantine-period-to-14-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/27\/hong-kong-will-shorten-covid-19-quarantine-period-to-14-days\/","title":{"rendered":"Hong Kong will shorten COVID-19 quarantine period to 14 days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Hong-Kong-will-shorten-COVID-19-quarantine-period-to-14-days.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fhongkongfp%2Fvideos%2F4304691139632403%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share\"><\/iframe>\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"story_dl\">Jan. 27 (UPI) &#8212;<\/span> Hong Kong will shorten its 21-day quarantine to 14 days starting next month, officials announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Chief Executive Carrie Lam said that, starting Feb. 5, incoming travelers will need to quarantine in a hotel followed by seven days of self-quarantine at home.\n<\/p>\n<p>Incoming travelers will also be required to test twice during the seven-day home-quarantine period.<\/p>\n<p>Large-scale events will stay banned until Feb. 17, as will the suspension of in-class teaching at schools.<\/p>\n<p>The moves come as officials consider Omicron&#8217;s short incubation period, which allows it to spread more quickly, amid a COVID-19 outbreak that already is challenging the city&#8217;s capacity for quarantining people at high risk of the disease.<\/p>\n<p>While Lam said Hong Kong is &#8220;in control of the virus,&#8221; she noted that if there is room to adjust quarantine protocols leaders will make changes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are doing a review every day,&#8221; Lam said. &#8220;Once we have further adjustments, we will announce.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The city&#8217;s zero-COVID strategy &#8212; which mirrors the strategy of mainland China &#8212; is one of the most strict policies in the world. It comes, however, amid fears that Hong Kong&#8217;s international business hub may be affected by the spread of the virus.\n<\/p>\n<p>Only Hong Kong residents are currently allowed to return from high-risk areas, and travel from eight countries has been banned altogether.<\/p>\n<p>A recent outbreak found among small animals also prompted Hong Kong officials to euthanize 2,000 animals.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jan. 27 (UPI) &#8212; Hong Kong will shorten its 21-day quarantine to 14 days starting next month, officials announced on Thursday.
