The FIFA U-20 World Cup winner had a stint with Ghana’s senior national team after their triumphant outing in Egypt in 2009. Speaking in relation to Ghana’s final Group C AFCON loss to debutants Comoros, the former Liberty Professionals defensive midfielder believes the West African nation has not learnt enough over the years. “If you look at the Comoros squad, you don’t see anybody like [Thomas] Partey or [Daniel] Amartey but they are tactically discipline. “They are not overly confident and they move together.

“They know when to pass the ball and when they have to defend [their goal]. “We as Ghanaians have not tried to learn. Our confidence as a nation is still high. “But we must understand that we have dropped down in class from the top to 10th position. “Now we have to make conscious effort to learn and that will help our national team in future.” Rabiu Mohammed told Kessben fm.

The Black Stars opened their 2021 AFCON campaign with a 1-0 loss to North African side, Morocco at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium. The four time AFCON winners followed it up with a 1-1 draw against Gabon in the second group game before falling 3-2 to Comoros Island in the third game. The Black Stars exited the tournament with just a point and for the first time since 2006 when they last chalked that poor result. Ghana must now shift attention to the final 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles of Nigeria over two legs in March.
