{"id":757462,"date":"2022-01-19T18:31:27","date_gmt":"2022-01-19T18:31:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/19\/covid-19-pregnant-women-can-now-be-vaccinated-ghs\/"},"modified":"2022-01-19T18:31:27","modified_gmt":"2022-01-19T18:31:27","slug":"covid-19-pregnant-women-can-now-be-vaccinated-ghs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2022\/01\/19\/covid-19-pregnant-women-can-now-be-vaccinated-ghs\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19: Pregnant women can now be vaccinated \u2013 GHS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"td-post-featured-image\">\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"696\" height=\"426\" class=\"entry-thumb\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/1629906108_715_image-200-696x426.png\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Pregnancy\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">File Photo: Pregnant <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says based on local and international evidence; it is now safe for Covid-19 vaccines to be administered to pregnant women in Ghana.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, disclosed that at the initial stages of the vaccine roll-out, his outfit was skeptical about administering the vaccines to pregnant women.<\/p>\n<p>However, pregnant women can now receive the Covid-19 jabs based on recent data and findings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve done quite a lot of work. As Ghana Health Service and all the other agencies who\u2019re working with us, we\u2019re all concerned about pregnant women, and that\u2019s why we didn\u2019t add them in the first place, in the first one year of implementation.<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/22191989129,1002554\/MGL\/mgl_ado_atunwa_300x250 --><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut now that we have enough evidence both international and local, we are now able to add pregnant women to it, because it\u2019s effective and safe. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are studies in Ghana, where we\u2019re collaborating and even looking at the effects on breastfeeding etc, and so far it is safe, and that is why we\u2019re adding that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd then they\u2019ve also recommended specific vaccines that can be used for pregnant women, just like we have specific ones for 15-year-olds; those below 18 and 15,\u201d Dr Kuma-Aboagye explained.<\/p>\n<p>The disclosure by the Ghana Health Service was part of series of updates on Ghana\u2019s fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In this regard, Dr Kuma-Aboagye also indicated that the Ghana Health Service will implement a vaccine booster policy to stem the tide. <\/p>\n<p>            <!--  [embed]https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=videoseries[\/embed]<!--\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>--><\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"fzeA9stscng\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"FIRE OUTBREAKS: Incidents in western Region on decline - GNFS PRO  - Premtobre Kasee on (19-1-22)\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fzeA9stscng?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>File Photo: Pregnant The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says based on local and international evidence; it is now safe for Covid-19 vaccines to be administered to pregnant women in Ghana.
