The United States (U.S) Ambassador to Ghana, H.E Stephanie S. Sullivan has called on Ghanaian journalists to verify facts before putting information in the public domain.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) held at the Manhyia Palace, she advised journalists to shun deceptive sources of information- persons she chose to describe as \u201cKwaku Ananse\u201d whose only drive is to mislead with a one-sided story.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s essential to do research: check and double-check your sources, seek a different perspective. Don\u2019t be misled by a \u2018Kwaku Ananse\u2019, who gives you only a part of the story.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are all better served by a well-rounded fact-based body of reporting that allows the public to hear all sides and often that means not being the first to break the news.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith strong and professional reporting, you can bring balance to public policy debate; you can remove emotion and replace it with facts that let us all participate in democracy. You can give a voice to all sides in a debate even if you personally disagree with some views\u201d, she admonished.<\/p>\n
She hoped for the success of the training programme.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe stand behind you and are ready to assist in any way we can\u201d, she added.<\/p>\n
